At a special city council meeting on Jan. 13, Scott Anderson was appointed the mayor of Hoffman.
Anderson fills the position vacated by Dennis Satre, who resigned on Dec. 23, 2024, after serving 40 years as Mayor of Hoffman. His resignation was effective Jan. 1 and accepted by the council at their Jan. 6 meeting.
Satre cited health problems as the reason for his decision to step down.
The council voted unanimously to appoint Anderson as the mayor. Anderson, who was a current council member, abstained from the vote.
With Anderson’s council seat vacant, the council introduced a resolution to appoint Pat McGrath to the position. The vote was unanimous.
Both Anderson and McGrath were present at the special meeting and took the oath of office that evening.
Because both seats have under two years left in their terms, a special election is not needed.
Appointments
With the seats filled for the time being, the Hoffman City Council went to work making appointments and designations for 2025.
Anderson was appointed head of the garbage committee. He is also the co-head with McGrath on the city properties, facilities and equipment committee; and a co-head of the personnel committee with Mike Krusemark.
McGrath was appointed committee head for streets and water/sewer.
Mike McLaughlin was appointed vice mayor and will also serve as the head of the parks and recreation committee. He will also head the Hoffman Economic Development Authority (HEDA) committee along with Rachel Persons.
Krusemark will head the nuisance and ambulance committees.
In addition to the HEDA, Persons will helm the fire department committee.
All terms expire Dec. 31.
The Grant County Herald was designated as the official publication for public notices.
Farmers State Bank of Hoffman was designated the official depository with Janee Strunk, Muriel Krusemark and Anderson listed as the authorized personnel.
Justin R. Anderson of Civil & Criminal Affairs, Bond Council was designated the city attorney for 2025.
The next meeting of the Hoffman City Council will be March 3.
