Friday afternoon, the Grant County Board of Commissioners conducted an emergency closed meeting. The Herald was notified of the meeting by Auditor Chad Van Stanten.
When the Herald asked for the reasoning for the closed meeting, he replied that County Board Chair Troy Johnson, District 1, had requested the meeting.
In seeking the reason for the meeting, the Herald quotes Minnesota State Stature that says, “Before closing a meeting, a public body shall state on the record the specific grounds permitting the meeting to be closed and describe the subject to be discussed.”
No votes or actions can be taken in a closed session. The public body is required to summarize the discussion when it comes out of the closed session. If a vote is required, it would take place once the board has reconvened in open session.
