Progress on designing and bidding out the proposed Grant County Law Enforcement Center hit a snag last Tuesday when two county commissioners said they wanted more information on cutting costs. Commissioner Ken Johnson suggested the Grant County Sheriff’s Office look into contracting out emergency services dispatch to a neighboring county. In that way, the proposed LEC would save space, as well as solve its shortage of dispatchers problem, saving money.
Commissioner Troy Johnson agreed, saying, “We need to have this conversation.”
Sheriff Combs said the department is down only one dispatcher at the present time, and that is no reason to look at such an extreme move. Combs asked Johnson if he could accept having a dispatcher for Grant County Emergency Services, located in Kandiyohi County, in Willmar, “Because that’s where it will go!”
