The Elbow Lake Arts Advisory Council (ELAAC) is offering a new series of free art classes for kids and adults in February and March. Registration forms are available at the Elbow Lake Public Library with a deadline of Feb. 24. Class sizes are limited.
Following the success of its Summer Art Camp, the ELAAC board decided a winter camp would help give the community something fun to do during the colder months and allow more interaction with art.
“Providing access to art and art education is an important part of our mission,” ELAAC chair Kari Hagstrom said. “The board feels it is important to offer these classes for free so everyone can participate.”
The biggest challenges the board faced when organizing Winter Art Camp were coming up with creative ideas for classes and coordinating the schedules of the artists. “The library, however, has been a fantastic partner to work with when coordinating these activities,” Hagstrom said.
History of board
The ELAAC was founded in 2011 with the goal of starting a free summer music series in Elbow Lake. They applied for and received a $10,000 grant in 2019 from the Lake Region Arts Council to start their Summer Art Camp. Council events are funded by the city of Elbow Lake.
Other members of the current council include Erika Frikken, Jane Gardner, Deb Mickelson, and Mayor Deb Hengel as the city council liaison. Members complete three year terms with up to three consecutive terms permitted.
Community members with ideas for future art classes or interest in volunteering with the ELAAC can leave a message at the Elbow Lake library front desk.
The complete schedule of Winter Art Camp classes can be found in this edition of the Grant County Herald.
