Elbow Lake City Council members adopted the budget for the coming year, along with setting the property tax levy for 2024, at last week’s meeting. Notably, the council announced a modest increase in the property tax levy, marking a rise of only 0.457% from the previous year, positioning this year’s levy at $758,007 compared to last year’s $754,553.

This minimal increase is a result of significant budgetary adjustments, particularly in two key areas: the Public Employees Retirement Agency (PERA) fund and debt services. Both sectors witnessed a reduction in budgeted spending, each dropping by $10,000 or more compared to the previous year’s figures. Council Member Darryl Larson lauded this achievement, stating, “That’s the best we’ve ever done.”
