Flekkefest to get folks ‘Together Again’

After a one-day COVID-19 abbreviated Flekkefest last year, Elbow Lake’s Flekkefest Committee is bound and determined to make Flekkefest 2021 as close to its pre-pandemic fun and excitement as possible. The big Scandinavian festival will be held August 6,7,8 and will feature most of the events that Flekkefest is known for: the rummage sales, including the Museum’s “Oldies but Goodies” sale, Crazy Days, European Kaffe House, Friends of the Library Used Book sale, face painting with the root beer floats and mini-golf, and the Arts and Craft Fair on the Courthouse lawn are all back, get underway Friday morning, and continue through Saturday.

Then there is the Great Snoose Box hunt and Quarters and More Dig, Friday at 10:00 at the Grant County Herald.

Friday and Saturday afternoon, the Pony Rides and Petting Zoo are back, and the Hans House Taste of Scandinavia.

There will be Games to Go Inflatable fun at Soo Park from noon until 4:00 p.m. both days as well.

And, back again, the Milk Carton Boat Race at 4:00 on Friday.

You will be able to find something for everyone to eat at the Flekke-Feast Food Fest, Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Veterans Park. While you dine, listen to the good old country music by the “Honky Tonk Stardust Cowboys.”

And there will be a street dance in the Knotty Pine parking lot Friday night, featuring “Runestone Rebellion,” from 9:00 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.

On Saturday morning, the Flekkefest Softball Tournament gets underway at the Athletic Park, and the Flekkefest 5K Run/Walk lines up at 8:00 a.m. You can register starting at 7:00, and there will also be a Kids 1K Fun Run.

At 10:00 a.m., the Fly-in at the Municipal Airport takes off. You can take an airplane ride and buy a steak sandwich, served up by the Grant County Lions.

There will also be a pancake breakfast at the Community building from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

On Saturday, singer/guitarist Craig Torgusson will be performing by the Community Building from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

The Grant County Historical Museum will be offering tours of historical Pomme de Terre school starting at 1:00 p.m., so sign up, but get back in time for the Flekkefest Parade, which will start at 5:00 p.m. and go from the school,  down main street, and end up at Veterans Park. Grand Marshal for the 2021 Flekkefest Parade is Gene Wenstrom.

Than you can enjoy a “Picnic in the Park” BBQ supper, starting at 6:00 p.m. This is a fundraiser for West Central Area Arts programming.

While at Veterans Park, be sure to watch the Pedal Pull contest.

Then wind up at the Fireman’s Street Dance where you will be entertained by “Wicked Garden” from 8:00 p.m. until midnight.

Saturday will be topped off by fireworks at Dusk.

Start your Flekkefest Sunday off with a Community Worship service, 10:00 .a.m. at Veterans Park, then enjoy the Elbow Lions Fish Fry at the fire hall from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The big drawing for the Flekkefest Button cash prizes will be held at 1 p.m. at the  Elbow Lake Firehall.

More events to come!

Don’t forget to buy your Flekkefest button for great deals, and a chance to win cash. The theme of Flekkefest 2021 is, appropriately,  “Together Again.”
