Flower shop newest business in Erdahl

by C.A. Ray, Editor

Bonnie Waskosky plans to open the Water Drop Flower Shop in Erdahl in early July! Why a flower shop in the tiny unincorporated village of Erdahl? Well, first of all, it is the location of Waskosky Well Drilling; Bonnie and her husband Kyle own the fourth generation business. Second, Erdahl is located between Elbow Lake, Evansville, Ashby and Barrett, four bigger towns who could use a flower shop! So there is a lot of traffic on Highway #79, which fronts the Water Drop Flower Shop.

Waskosky, a 2004 graduate of West Central Area, went to Brainerd Community College for a degree in Horticulture where she learned to be a florist. She worked for a while with a florist in Fergus Falls, where she learned a lot about the business. Then, as she got more involved in bookkeeping for the well drilling business, and started raising a family, her floral skills went unused. The Waskoskys have three youngsters: Casey, Holland, and Oliver.

With the recent closing of Simpli Flowers in Elbow Lake, Waskosky realized it was the perfect time to open her own shop.

“Gaylene Hanson, of Simpli Flowers, was so helpful and I was able to purchase some of her equipment, such as a cooler,” she said.

The Water Drop Flower Shop will specialize in fresh cut flowers, house plants, and some gift items. Later, Waskosky hopes to add a greenhouse so she can start her own plants. She will sell floral arrangements for gifts, and plans to work with local funeral homes to provide floral arrangements for funerals. Waskosky does not plan to provide flowers for weddings as they are too big a job for a small shop, and besides, she likes to go to the lake on weekends.

And where did the name Water Drop Flower Shop come from?

“My sister-in-law, Mandy, named it, saying, with the well drilling connection, the name should have something to do with water.”

So look for a Water Drop Flower Shop sign on their storefront, located right on Highway #79 in front of Waskosky Well Drilling, in Erdahl, the center of the universe, around the beginning of July.
