Harvest off to a good start

The 2022 fall harvest got off to a fast start, a month ago, and has been going well ever since. According to Farm Services Agency County Executive Director Shannon Olson, the soybean crop is between 80 and 90 percent harvested with some pockets in the southeast corner of the county that are behind. Yields are between 40 and 65 bushels per acre and, according to Dan Mashek of Elbow Lake Co-op Grain, the quality of the beans is excellent.

“Considering the late spring, where some beans weren’t even planted until June, and the windy summer with tornadoes, farmers are pretty pleased with the soybean crop.”
