When looking to decrease the levy for the Housing Development Authority (HRA), the results of a special meeting had a similar outcome to the previous regular meeting.
During the regular meeting on Dec. 16, Commissioner Ken Johnson moved to cut the levy amount allotted to the HRA from $200,000 to $100,000. He cited the amount was increased last year to cover expenses related to office renovations and furniture.
“Four of the items were for remodeling the HRA current office – furniture and miscellaneous expenses associated with the remodel of the new office, maintaining their new office and new storage,” Johnson said to HRA Executive Director Jim Standish. “Because it appears most of that is completed, how does that extrapolate into 2026 when you’re asking for $200,000 again?”
Standish noted that the costs of insurance premiums and maintenance have risen dramatically, and that what they’re asking for is not an increase over the previous year.
Still, after a long back and forth, Johnson made a motion to reduce the HRA tax levy by half, to $100,000. Board Chair Doyle Sperr seconded the motion.
