Stacy Hennen, Director of Western Prairie Human Services, received the 2024 Child Welfare Leadership Award from the University of Minnesota’s Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare. The award, which is given based on public recognition of an individual’s work in the field, was presented during a Grant County Commissioners meeting.

Hennen’s career in human services spans nearly three decades, beginning with roles in child protection and the supervision of a children’s residential facility. Over the past 15 years, she has served as the director of human services, initially in Grant County, before expanding her responsibilities to Pope County in 2019 and Traverse County in 2021.

On January 1, 2022, Hennen oversaw the creation of Western Prairie Human Services, a joint powers entity serving Grant and Pope Counties and contracting with Traverse County Social Services. Her tenure has included initiatives such as targeted case management redesign and formula changes for vulnerable children and adults.

In addition to her administrative duties, Hennen has been active in state-level policy. She was appointed by the Governor to the Governor’s Child Protection Task Force and the Human Services Performance Management Council. She also served as President of the Minnesota Association of County Social Services Administrators (MACSSA) in 2015 and held various other leadership roles within the organization.

Hennen’s efforts include the introduction of Collaborative Safety and Community Intensive Bridging Services to her regions. She has also testified in front of the Minnesota Legislature on various issues related to children’s and general human services.

In 2016, Hennen was awarded MACSSA’s Human Services Award, recognizing her contributions to the field. Her work continues to influence both regional and statewide practices in human services across Minnesota.
