The famous Flekkefest Trolls greet folks on the parade route.

This year’s Flekkefest parade will have a touch of local history added to its celebration, as the descendants of the Sanford family have been named as the grand marshals. The Sanford family, whose roots are entrenched deeply in the region’s history even before Elbow Lake, will be the proud representatives leading the community in its traditional procession.
From 1864 to 1866, Henry Francis Sanford was stationed at Fort Pomme de Terre. Drawn to the area’s remarkable landscape, he chose to stay, and his mother, Lurana Marvin Sanford, joined him to become the first official homesteader within Grant County.
The parade will host a number of Sanford family members, including Ruth Reetz Sanford, her son Randy Reetz and granddaughter Grace Reetz. Siblings Dick and Susan Sanford will also be in attendance, along with Paul Sanford’s son, Eric and his wife Molly, and their children Cedar and Juniper.
