Summer festival season begins in Kensington

The summer festival season gets underway with Rune Stone Days in Kensington, June 15-18. The celebration actually begins with the Kensington Bank’s 125th Anniversary Customer Appreciation Event on Tuesday, June 13 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00. Celebrate with a free meal at the Kensington Cafe. There will be giveaways and a display of the bank’s history.

The big weekend begins with the Little Miss Rune Stone and Miss Rune Stone pageant Thursday, June 15, 7:00 p.m. at the Kensington Community Center. To register, call Ronda Simpson at 320-460-0378. The Pageant is sponsored by Lake Life Style, Elsel Lawn Care, Kensington Bar and Cafe, Hagen Trucking, the Kensington Norsemen, and Kensington Fire Relief.

City wide garage sales start Friday and continue through Saturday. There will be a bake sale at the Kensington Bank, starting at 8:00 a.m. The Kensington Commercial Club Family Fun Night is downtown from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 featuring the Bounce N Get Down Inflatables. Outlaw DJ plays at the Street Dance from 8:00 p.m. until midnight and fireworks will light up the sky at dusk.

Saturday starts with the Kensington Lions Pancake Breakfast from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 at the Kensington Community Center. The Nora Church Ladies will hold a bake sale at the same time and place.

There will be a Craft and Vendor Show at the Kensington Community Center from 8:00 a.m. until noon. For information and to reserve your spot call Julie Smith at 320-515-3496. 

The Co-Ed Softball Tournament starts at 8:00 a.m. To register your team call Mike Hagen at 612-799-5627 by June 14. There will be a maximum of eight teams playing.

Hardwood Hills Golf Course will host a Four Person Golf Tournament, starting at 8:30 a.m. Call Pryce Score at 320-965-2711 or Hardwood Hills at 320-585-1400 to register.

Kensington Memorial Park will become the Kid’s  Zone from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with free fun for all ages. There will be trout fishing, a BB gun range, bow and arrow range, Minnow races and more. Each child will receive a free rod and reel combo Snow cones will be available, and kids can build their own bluebird house. The West Central Rock Hound will sponsor a Gem Mining Experience and there will be 31 flavors of cotton candy to enjoy.

Painter Jane Gardner will host a Paint and Sip event at the Kensington Community Center from 1:00 until 4:30. Wine will be provided.

A Bean Bag Tournament will get underway on main street at 2:00 p.m. Sign up your two person team with Chad Simpson at 320-515-2282.

Try something different like Woodsman Axe Throwing on main street from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00.

Then put away the axes for the big Kensington Commercial Club Street Dance featuring the band “Flash Mob,” on main street from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. Admission is cash only.

Sunday opens with a Classic Car Show from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. All classic cars are welcome to participate. Call Rick Spillman at 320-965-2794 for more information.

There will be a Father’s Day Luncheon at the Kensington Cafe from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and a Community Church Service at 10:30 a.m. by the LCMC Church.

Weigh-ins start at 8:00 a.m. for the Antique Tractor Pull at 11:00. Call Karl Hausmann at 320-304-0905, or Benjamin Hausmann at 320-304-4516 for more information.

Lexi Green will sing the National Anthem for the Kensington Norsemen Baseball game at 4:00 p.m.

Concessions will be available Friday night at the KTown Bar Food Court and food venders will be available throughout the weekend.

No parking on main street in Kensington from 4:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday after the parade.
