The West Central Area School Board got some good news from Superintendent Paul Brownlow at their meeting last Wednesday morning.

“The boiler at South has been repaired,” he said.

Earlier this month, Facilities Manager Chad Norenberg reported a leak in the boiler that leaked water into the firebox and igniter, shutting it down. The school had to switch to its electric system. He was not very positive the leak could be fixed in time to finish the heating season and worried that if it got real cold the electric system could not handle it.

Brownlow reported that once the boiler was inspected it was discovered a tube needed to be replaced to stop the leak.

“The technician stated that we should be okay for the remainder of this heating season and the next heating season,” Brownlow said, adding that at that point the boiler may have to be retubed at an estimated cost of $15,000 to $20,000.
