On Aug. 21, the West Central Area (WCA) Board of Education sat down to their final meeting before the school year begins. The 40-minute meeting covered much ground ahead of the first day of classes on Sept. 5.
Superintendent Paul Brownlow gave a report, which included the final slate of candidates for the school board and the ongoing issues with job vacancies within the school system.
Brownlow noted six candidates filed for the board seats with four-year terms. They were Michael Bruns, Darin Grosz, Jared Olson, Kayla Sandstead, Jeremiah Ulrich and Claire Vincent.
Two candidates, Nathan Porter and Joshua Ulrich, filed for two-year terms.
Brownlow said the ballot is already being proofread and finalized. “They’re proofing it for us and things like that. It’ll be part of the General Election through the county, so they’re taking care of all those pieces there.”
On staffing, Brownlow praised WCA staff who were willing to take on extra positions to fill the gaps in their staffing.
