The 95th National FFA Convention, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was an incredible experience for members of the West Central Area and Herman-Norcross FFA Chapters.  Highlighting the trip this year are two national level achievements by WCA members Tyler Biss and Sarah Moore.  This year’s delegates included WCA members: Alexa Blume, Landon Long, Justin Blascyk, Aubrie Schroeder, Jaime Johnson, and David Larson.  WCA also hosted Herman-Norcross FFA President, Addison Blume on the trip.

Tyler Biss is the first national level competitor from WCA since 1993.  Biss earned first place in the Minnesota Prepared Public Speaking Career Development Event (CDE) in which he spoke about the challenges of converting America’s tractor fleet to all electric equipment.  Biss represented the state of Minnesota in the competition.  As the state’s representative, Biss was one of just 48 national competitors, an achievement that these few speakers have over all other 850,000 FFA members in the nation. Biss did not advance in his first round, but served as an excellent representative of WCA and presented a very interesting topic.

Sarah Moore continues the tradition of American Degree recipients by earning her degree at this year’s convention.  Moore is a member of an elite club of members in the nation that achieve this high honor.  American Degrees are earned by less than one half of one percent of all members nationwide.  Moore  earned her degree through diligent work in the classroom, participating in leadership experiences at the regional, state, and national level, and keeping accurate records of her Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE).

Members attended leadership development workshops, participated in the country’s largest agricultural career fair, and visited historical sites such as Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the film site of Field of Dreams. The WCA and H-N members met their own challenge by meeting members from all 50 states and took pictures with each of their FFA jackets.

This year’s convention hosted 70,000 FFA members and guests and included a keynote speech by WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist, Tammika Catchings, as well as a private concert by country stars Lauren Alaina and Jimmie Allen.  The members also attended a private rodeo that was also live broadcast on the Rodeo channel.
