Gerald (Jerry) Currier, 95, of Dalton passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.

Gerald Fred Currier, son of Fred and Orda Currier was born July 7, 1928, in St. Peter, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Grove Lutheran Church in New Sweden, MN. Jerry grew up on the family farm by St. Peter, the oldest of four children. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1947. Following high school, he went to Minneapolis where he attended Dunwoody and began his career in plumbing.

In 1950, he was drafted in the army. He served in the Corp. of Engineers in Okinawa during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Later in life he became an active member of Legion Post #357 in Ashby, MN.

On July 15, 1951, he married Virgie Carlson of Elbow Lake. They were married in Minneapolis during his delay enroute from Virginia before going overseas. Following his discharge Jerry & Virgie lived in South Minneapolis where he worked as a plumber. Together they raised four sons. Their youngest son Scott sadly passed away at the age of 15. He was a special needs child whose life touched many. Jerry and Virgie were also blessed with three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed all the hours he got to spend with them. He especially looked forward to the family visiting him at Ten Mile Lake.

Jerry retired from plumbing at age 60. He and Virgie moved to Ten Mile Lake, where they built a new home. They had a cabin on the site since 1958, and spent many hours together hunting ducks. Jerry was very interested in Conservation so he joined Stalker Lake Sportsmen Club where he spent time working with food plots and other projects. He was an avid hunter, but would regularly stop to help turtles cross the road. He also enjoyed a large garden, fishing and golf. He had many witty comments such as “if you don’t have time to put it away, you don’t have time to use it.” He and Virgie took many trips throughout the United States and spent sixteen winters in New Braunfels, TX.

While in Minneapolis he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Minnehaha Falls, and after retirement became a member of Bethlehem/West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Virgie, and sons David (Roxanne) Currier, Bruce Currier and Greg (Mary Thomas) Currier. Grandchildren Angie (Jason) Merlin, Michelle (Mark) Warren, Shane Currier (Kathy Vue), Great Granddaughters Elle and Nora Merlin, Evelyn and Julia Warren. Sisters Bonnie Meyer and Joanne (Archie) Ranta, and many wonderful friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Orda Currier, brother Dale Currier, and son Scott.
