Harriet Joan (Strom) Hubred passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on July 16, 2026, at Autumn Cottages in Alexandria.

Harriet was born on August 14, 1937, the daughter of Blanche and Dell Strom. Dell died before her second birthday. He owned Dell’s Cafe, later known as Strom’s Cafe, in Hoffman. Harriet was just six years old when she lost her mother to uterine cancer. She was raised by her step-grandmother Betsy Halvorson, who passed during Harriet’s senior year of high school.

After graduating from Hoffman High, Harriet married John “Jack” Harrison Hubred, also of Hoffman, in November of 1955. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1998. The couple had four children, Jonette Lee of Medford, Thomas John of St. Paul, Christine Joy who preceded Harriet in death, and Jason Eric of Alexandria.

Harriet will always be remembered for her love of and talent for singing and her years of work spent caring for seniors and adults with intellectual disabilities in Montevideo. Her children will always be grateful to have grown up on her home-made bread, caramel rolls, and lefse.

She also had a strong Christian faith, which sustained and comforted her through the years.

In addition to her husband, daughter, and parents, Harriet was also preceded in death by her sisters and their husbands, Jeanne (Wally) Gunderson, Colleen (Dale) Westberg, Donna (Vernon) Reuss, and Betty (Ray) Baty; and brothers-in-law Axel Jr., Donald, and Franklin Hubred.

Surviving Harriet are children Joni, Tom, and Jason (Melissa); grandchildren Jared (Barb) Miller, Leah (Dustin) Towler, Joshua (Krystle), Jonathan, Jayme and Eric; great-grandchildren Dylan, Nathan, and Megan Miller; friends-like-family Barb and Larry Smith and Alan and Nancy Johnsrud; plus many other friends and relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on August 15, 2026, at Grace Church, 1704 Hazel Hill Rd SE, in Alexandria, with visitation an hour before the service. The service will also be live streamed at <https://youtube.com/@soundboothgrace4427>.
