Joan A. Sethney, 77, of Owatonna, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Emeralds of Faribault.

 Joan (Jo) Audrey Sethney was born May 5, 1946, to John and Audrey Stavenger in Sioux Falls, SD. She was their only child. She spent most of her youth in Morris, MN, graduating from high school in 1964 and from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 1968 with a degree in speech and theatre arts. She married Gary W. Sethney on September 19, 1970. From 1970-1980, they resided in Grinnell, IA where both of their daughters were born. Jo directed two plays for the Community Theatre there. In 1980, they moved to Owatonna, MN. Jo was very active in the couples’ golf league at Brooktree, Little Theatre (as an actress, stagehand and director), and helped to start the Steele County Habitat for Humanity. She attended the Associated Church and was drama coordinator for DayBreak Community Church. In 1995, she was nominated for the Golden Deeds Award and she was inducted into the Little Theatre Hall of Fame. Jo worked for 15 years at The King Company. In 1999, Gary and Jo moved to Chaska, MN. Jo worked for Westwood Community Church as an Administrative Assistant for six years. Gary and Jo retired in 2009 and moved to Florence, AZ where they spent their winters. Their summers were spent on Barrett Lake in MN in a camping resort. They moved back to Owatonna in September 2022 to be closer to family. Throughout her life, Jo had a love of reading, cross stitching, knitting, laughing, being with friends and family, having fun, playing cards, traveling, and fishing.

 Jo is preceded in death by her parents.

 She is survived by: husband, Gary Sethney; daughter, Cathy (Chris) Harris of Owatonna, MN; daughter, Lisa (Randy) Martin, of Slayton, MN; three grandchildren, Tyler Harris, Alec Harris, and Amber Martin; brother-in law, Mike Sethney (Charlene); niece, Kristi Sethney; and nephew, Scott (Kari) Sethney and their sons Michael, David, and Andrew.

 Visitation was held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, October 23, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Michaelson Funeral Home.
