Lowell “Buddy” Itzen, 76, of Coalville, IA, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023, at his home in Coalville.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Pastor Dan Kahl officiating. Burial was in the Elkhorn Township Cemetery.

Lowell “Buddy” George Itzen was born May 25, 1946, in Fergus Falls, MN. Buddy was a farmer all of his life – literally and in his heart. In the mid 1980s, Buddy owned a farm in west central Minnesota but lost it due to the farm crisis. Buddy then went to Mediation Training to help many of his farming neighbors retain their farms. Buddy went to Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, MN on the Willie Nelson Farm Aid Program earning a degree in Fluid Power. After a short stint in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the family moved to Fort Dodge, IA in 1989.

Buddy was a jack of all trades. He knew how to repair just about anything, work with electricity, drive heavy equipment, repair automobiles, and run a machine shop. but the one job he loved the most was helping the Stanek Brothers (Jason and Doug) farm their land. He treated their land and equipment as if it were his own. While Buddy was working on the Stanek farm, he and Jason started a company called Elkhorn Equipment Company, Inc. inventing a Turbo Tube which is a dust vacuum that went on the feeder house of a John Deere combine. Buddy became the sole owner of the company where he also made gathering chain extenders for picking up downed corn stalks, and grain augers. Buddy was a perfectionist and it showed in all his work.

Buddy met the love of his life in high school, they were married for 56 years and 11 months. He loved his children, adored his grandchildren, and cherished his friendships. Buddy knew no stranger; he struck up a conversation with everyone everywhere and he loved talking on the phone to many.

Buddy is survived by his wife Linda of 56 years, sons Trevor (Lorrie) Itzen, Byron Itzen and daughter Corinna Clarahan all of Fort Dodge; grandchildren Cory Itzen, Jonathan Itzen, Lucas Itzen, Madison Clarahan, Brianna Clarahan, Tailor Heggen, Trysta Wood, Carlie Wood, Zoey Itzen, and Cairah Itzen. He is also survived by seven siblings, Lois Maki of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Lee Raths of Morris, MN, Pam (Mike) Ludwig of Monticello, MN, Margo Hawkinson of Alexandria, MN, Tim (Brenda) Itzen of Clewiston, FL, Randy Itzen of Herman, MN, and Jeff Itzen of Herman, MN. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Billy Itzen.

Buddy will be missed by all!
