Orvin “Orv” Erickson, 91, of Elbow Lake passed away on February 13, 2023.
Orvin Donald Erickson was born on August 2, 1931, in Elbow Lake, Minnesota to Carl and Louise (Haraldson) Erickson. He attended school in Elbow Lake, graduating June 5, 1951. After graduation, Orvin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany as a cook.
Once returning to the states he moved to Minneapolis and started his career at Shamrock Industries until his retirement. Orvin never had a driver’s license, nor did he ever drive. He would ride with friends or take the Greyhound bus from Minneapolis frequently to the Elbow Lake and Dent, MN areas to visit family and friends. Orvin loved to fish and travel, but more than that, he loved to visit…even if you did all the talking.
After retiring, Orvin couldn’t wait to relocate to his hometown of Elbow Lake, and he made the most of it. He was a staple at every single sports game possible, cheering on the West Central Area Knights. Orvin was a devoted member of United Lutheran Church and attended regularly until he moved to the Barrett Care Center.
Orvin is survived by his brother Dale Erickson, niece LuAnn Erickson, nephew Jayme Erickson, niece Jennifer Fresonke; 2 great nieces and 3 great nephews; cousins and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Louise; sister Evelyn (Nelson); brothers Gordon and Donald; and sister-in-law MaryAnn (Dale) Erickson.
Funeral Services will be held at the end of May or the beginning of June. The family will notify loved ones and friends, via the Grant County Herald and Erickson Funeral Home website, when a service is scheduled.
