Rebecca Jean Fitzwater Susens

Rebecca Jean Fitzwater Susens (Becky) passed away on Saturday, May 27 in Truth or Consequences, NM where she was being treated for Melanoma.

A memorial gathering will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Riverside Park, 1725 Kilian Blvd, St Cloud, MN 56304.

Becky was born to William Edward Susens and Wisterra Rose (Goodman) Susens on September 14,1952 in Shell Lake, WI. She was the sixth child of nine siblings: Rosemary, Patricia, William (deceased), Margaret, Kathleen, Jon, Peter, and Steven. Becky graduated high school (Belview, MN) and earned her BA of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota-Morris.

Rebecca’s great joy in life were her children and grandchildren. Samantha (Olson) Schurter and Kenny Olson. Samantha and Michael (Schurter) provided a treasured gift of two wonderful grandchildren, August and Winslow. In her last years, they were truly ‘the wind beneath her wings.’ She could not get enough of loving those boys.

Rebecca’s heart was one of creative art. Throughout her adult life, she produced art in many mediums, most recently with one-of-a-kind painting on silk, mostly in scarf form. Many of her friends and family sport a scarf she created.

In her later years, Becky met and married Dan Fitzwater and this union was filled with love, companionship and shared adventures. He took her to the deepest desert of New Mexico (OK, she went willingly!) and she especially loved being away from Minnesota winters.

Now, as Becky has departed from this world, it is comforting to imagine her awaiting Dan at the gates of heaven on her Harley Davidson, ready to show him all the decorating she has accomplished there. “See? I said you have to move the moon over there…”

At this time of grief, let’s celebrate the life of Rebecca Jean Susens and the impact she has had on all our lives. May she rest in peace.
