Renae Ilene Thompson was born in Fergus Falls, MN on March 25, 1952 to Orris and Harriet Haraldson and passed away on May 16, 2023 in Surprise, AZ.

Renae attended grade school and high school in Elbow Lake, MN and upon graduating in 1970, she attended the ND State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND and completed the LPN nursing program. Renae’s next challenge in life was to join the U.S. Army Women’s Corp. She completed her basic training at Fort McClellan, AL and her advanced training at Fort Sam Houston, TX. Her first duty station was at Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley, KS where she met and married her husband, Al Thompson.  They served together at Dugway Proving Grounds, UT, three years in Germany, and Renae spent over 12 years working in the newborn care unit at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis, WA. She retired from the military after 20 years and spent the next 15 years as a school nurse in the Fife, Washington School District.

She and her husband lived in Spanaway, WA where they raised their two sons, Brian and Travis. Renae loved to travel and especially enjoyed annual cruises.  She had a generous spirit and a smile that was unmatched. She loved her family like a mother bear.

In 2019, she and Al set out on a new adventure and moved to Wittman, AZ. She loved riding through the desert with her husband in their side-by-side, hitting mud holes and ravines. Hanging out in their pool was a joy for her. In December of 2022 she became ill, but never lost her spirit and passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023 with her loving family by her side.

Renae is survived by her husband, Alfred J. Thompson, her two sons, Travis and Brian, daughter-in-law Erika, five grandsons, Dominick, Bryce, Christian, Kaleb, and Adam, granddaughter Isabella, and a great grandson August. Also, her loving siblings Dwaine (Jean) Haraldson, Lorae (Gene) Farrell, Jani (Jim) Thomas, Sherrie McCormick, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Renae was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Judy Stout, brother Don, and sister-in-law Faye.

A Celebration of Life for Renae will be held at the VFW in Tacoma, Washington, from 1:30 to 4:30 on September 16, 2023. Memorials can be sent to Al Thompson, 25542 West Dixileta Dr Wittmann, AZ 85361.
