
Steve Nelson, 54, of Elbow Lake, MN, passed away in his home on April 17, 2023.
Steven John Nelson was born July 11, 1968, in Wheaton, MN, to Willis John Nelson, Jr. and Bonita Rae (Hartman-Nelson) Mickelson.
Steve attended school in Gary Public School, South Shore Public School, and graduated from Arlington Public School in 1986. Steve continued his education at NDSU and at SDSU for Philosophy.
Steve worked at 3M in Brookings for several years as a slitter operator. He moved to San Antonio to work for American Tower, and eventually transferred to Elbow Lake. For the last several years Steve worked for Daryl Jensen Builders.
Steve enjoyed time spent with his family camping during the summers. Hunting deer with his dad and sister in Harding County in NW South Dakota. Playing cards with the family, especially playing “pennies.” He also enjoyed spending time at the lake.
Steve had a passion for animals, especially his dogs. He had raised Rottweilers when living in Brookings, SD. Whenever possible, he had a four-legged companion at his side. Steve had a passion for helping people. He had a big, caring heart.
He is survived by his sister Renee (Nelson) Backman (Tim), two nephews, Cody Backman of Ft Collins, CO, Hunter Backman of Frederic, WI, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Bonnie, aunt, Shelley, and his grandparents.
