One option that should be considered for more room for the Sheriff’s Office is to expand it to the south wall of the courthouse and remodel one, or both, stairwells to access the basement.
If deputies need office space to fill out reports, require in contracts with towns that they maintain office space for deputies as they did for their police. That would help the deputies to better know those communities.
For more manpower to deal with emergencies, recruit and train a volunteer sheriff posse, like is done for volunteer fire departments.
While not enforced, the Militia Act still requires every able bodied man over 20 years old, to have a firearm and ammunition for emergencies. That definition for militia is found in a number of state constitutions, which they took from the Bible.
