Border West goes 3-0 at home wrestling quadrangular

The Border West Buccaneer wrestling team went 3-0 at its hosted quadrangular Tuesday, Dec. 20, in Wheaton. The Bucs beat Spectrum, Benson and Ottertail Central to improve to 5-0 on the dual season.

Border West is next in action at the Webster, South Dakota Invitational Saturday, Dec. 31. The Bucs open the 2023 portion of the season at the Barnesville quadrangular against the Trojans, Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale and West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville Thursday, Jan. 5.

Spectrum 24

Border West jumped ahead early and never let up, earning a 58-24 win over Spectrum in the opening round of duals at the Border West quadrangular Tuesday, Dec. 20, in Wheaton.

Border West jumped out to a 24-0 lead after opening the dual with Spectrum with three straight pins by Brock Martig at 106, Zach Rikimoto at 113 and Gunner Hennessy at 120 and a forfeit victory at 126 for Cole Sykora.

After Spectrum got on the board with a fall at 132, another forfeit win gave Border West a 30-6 edge. Jude Olson earned a major decision, 17-3, over Jesse Farrell at 145 pounds to give the Bucs a 34-6 lead.

The two teams exchanged pins at 152 and 160 with Border West’s Patrick Forcier earning a 3:08 pinfall victory at 160 over Ethan Schmidt.

The lead increased to 46-12 after another pinfall victory by Ben Peterson at 170 pounds. Peterson pinned Jack Terry in 2:43.

After a forfeit for Spectrum at 182 and a pin at 195, Spectrum closed the gap to 46-24, but would get no closer.

Border West’s Andrew Hennessy took a 1:14 pinfall victory over Henry Christopherson in the 220-pound match and Noah Adelman took a forfeit win at heavyweight for the final 58-24 score.

Border West edged Benson 42-35 thanks to its mid-light weights in the second round of duals at the Border West wrestling quadrangular Tuesday evening, in Wheaton.

Benson earned two wins to go ahead 7-0 to start. Gavin Olson took a 12-2 major decision over Brock Martig at 106 pounds. Max Nygaard then took a 6-1 decision over Tucker Hennessy at 113.

Gunner Hennessy got Border West on the board and into the lead with a 1:05 pinfall victory over Ed Wah at 120 pounds.

That lead escalated to 30-7 after three pins and a forfeit win for Border West. Cole Sykora pinned Mu Tah of Benson in 1:06 at 126 pounds before Eli Larson claimed a forfeit win at 132. Peyton Forcier continued the pinning trend with a 2:27 pinfall victory over Tanner Nelson at 128. Jude Olson pinned Derek Johnson in 45 seconds at 145 pounds.

Border West won just two of the remaining seven weights to claim the 42-35 win.

Nick Bolduc of Benson earned a forfeit win at 152.

Patrick Forcier got those points right back with a 5:11 pinfall victory over Alex Whitcup at 160 pounds.

Preston McGee claimed a 12-0 major decision over Border West’s Ben Peterson at 170 pounds. Teagan Hogrefe took a forfeit win at 182. Benson’s AJ Klassen pinned Jason Ramierz in 25 seconds at 195 and Thomas Dineen took a 1:04 pinfall win over Noah Adelman at 220 to bring Benson back into the dual, trailing by one at 36-35.

Andrew Hennessy just needed a win at heavyweight to seal the victory for Border West. He ended up pinning Johnny Kobberman in 2:00 for the final 42-35 score.

In the final round of duals at the Border West wrestling quadrangular, the Buccaneers leapt out to a 40-0 lead and cruised to a 64-12 win over Ottertail Central.

Trig Olson opened the dual with a quick 10-second pin over Dylan Geihsler at 106 pounds.

After a 113-pound forfeit win for Border West, the Bucs continued their onslaught with pins at 120, 132 and 138.

Gunner Hennessy took a 3:10 fall over Brock Resch at 120. Cole Sykora followed that up with a tech fall, 18-3, over Mason Christianson at 126 pounds.

Eli Larson pinned Anthony Rousu in 1:38 during the 132-pound match and Peyton Forcier pinned Tayden Soma in 2:35 at 138.

Jude Olson took a tech fall, 18-3, over Conner Nelson at 145 to give Border West a 40-0 lead midway through the dual.

Ottertail Central’s Tommy Ehlert earned a pinfall victory at 152 pounds over Kevin Casper to get the Bulldogs on the board at 40-6.

Border West responded with back-to-back pinfall victories. Patrick Forcier pinned his 160-pound opponent in 32 seconds while Ben Peterson had a 1:25 pin at 170 pounds.

After a double forfeit, OTC forfeited both 195 and 220 to give Border West a 64-6 lead before the Bulldogs won the final match of the evening. Kale Rich earned a 4:55 pinfall victory over Andrew Hennessy at heavyweight for the final 64-12 score.
