The Border West track and field teams are hoping to continue the recent success that cooperative sponsorship between Wheaton/Herman-Norcross and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley has had in its inaugural year. The reference, of course, was to the Border West boys basketball team, which earned a Class A State Tournament trip in its first season as a cooperative sponsorship this past winter.
The team returns 22 letter winners between both the girls and boys programs.
2022 Recap
Last year, W/H-N advanced 13 events to the Section 6A meet. Clint Determan had the top finish for the Warriors at the section meet, placing fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.74, missing out on a state berth by just over a half-second.
The 1600 meter relay team also placed fourth in 3:45.37. Members of the 1600 relay were Determan, Derek Lupkes, Brayden Hormann, and Conner Goodhart, while the 800 meter relay team of Determan, Lupkes, Goodhart, and Brady Pederson placed seventh in 1:38.67, and the 400 meter relay team of Hormann, Drake Berning, Kyle Kremer, and Holden Rinke was eighth in 49.7.
Goodhart also placed eighth in the 300 meter hurdles (47.63), while Rinke added a fourth in the triple jump (39-9 1/2) and eighth in the long jump (18-8 3/4).
