The Knights, now 15-4 overall, played at Henning Tuesday, Feb. 15 and now close out the week at Hancock Friday, Feb. 18. WCA will play at Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Monday, Feb. 21 and against Lac qui Parle Valley Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Barrett.

Hancock’s Matt Thompson scored 37 and Hudson Versteeg added 19 in an 80-61 win over the West Central Area Knights in Pheasant Conference boys basketball action on Monday, Feb. 7, in Barrett.

Thompson completed his double-double by securing 18 rebounds. Jackson Koehl was also in double figures for the Owls with 10 points.

The Owls hit 27-of-55 shots for 49 percent in the game, including 6-of-17 from three-point range. The Knights also were clicking from the floor as they hit 23-of-55 shots for 42 percent and connected on 8-of-25 from deep.

The Knights won the turnover battle 12-13, but the Owls won the night on the boards by dominating the glass, 48-22.

“That’s the story of the game,” said Knights coach Kraig Hunter. “We didn’t turn it over too much and we shot the ball decently. Their field goal percent on their first shot attempts was much lower than their total, but they were getting two, three, sometimes four shots per possession and the percentage on offensive put-backs is pretty high. If we are going to compete at a high level against good teams, we’re going to have to figure that out.”

For WCA, Cam Anderson led with 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Cole Anderson added 14 points with three rebounds and two assists. Mitch Dewey also finished in double figures with 10 points, two assists, and two steals.

Nasir Dotts added seven points and two assists. Bryce Kjesbo had five points and two assists. Jake Strunk added four points, Ryder Staples was held to two points and Roman Mihailovschi had two points and led the team with four steals as the Knights fell to 14-4 on the year.

Parkers Prairie – 49

The West Central Area Knights defense held the Parkers Prairie Panthers to 34 percent shooting from the floor and forced 18 turnovers en route to a 61-49 home win on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Barrett.

Ryder Staples bounced back after a rough scoring night against the Owls and recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Knights against the Panthers.

Cole Anderson finished with a game-high 18 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Knights were Jacob Strunk with eight points, Nasir Dotts seven, Bryce Kjesbo seven, Mitch Dewey three, and Cam Anderson two.

Strunk and Cam Anderson each had four steals while Dotts and Cole Anderson had three each. Strunk also led the team in assists with four.

“We don’t have the official team rebounding stats yet, but we did a much better job in that area (Tuesday),” Limiting them to one shot on most possessions was a big key. I think we got a bit tired and a bit sloppy on offense due to playing games on Friday and an exhausting game (Monday). It will be good to get a couple of practices in now and sharpen things up on the offensive end.”
