Bucs remain on fire, streak now at 14

The Border West boys basketball team added three more wins last week to improve its current win streak to 14 in a row, dating back to the start of 2023.

The Bucs, now 17-2, played the Brandon-Evansville Chargers Tuesday, Feb. 14, in Evansville. They now tip off against Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday, Feb. 16, in Madison and close out the week against Hancock Friday, Feb. 17, in Graceville. Next Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Bucs host Rothsay, in Graceville.

Border West 76

Ashby 47

Clint Determan had 25 points to lead Border West to their 13th straight victory in a 76-47 defeat of Ashby Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Ashby.

Cole Gilsdorf had 10 points and the Bucs had 14 players get into the scoring column in the win.

Border West was able to take advantage of the turnover game against the Arrows, who had 18 turnovers in the game, which turned into 27 points off turnovers for Border West.

“We turned the ball over 13 times in the first half,” Ashby Head Coach John Holsten told craigolsonsports.com. “The Bucs transition from defense to offense was very impressive. They grabbed an 11-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game and never looked back.”

Determan, who was 10-of-12 from the floor, added two rebounds, three assists and three steals. Cole Gilsdorf added 10 points. Dylan Bainbridge had a team high four assists and Grant Dawson led the Bucs with a team-high four steals.  Caden Spilde grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Border West 67

Battle Lake 64

Border West strengthened its grip on the Little Eight Conference lead with a 67-64 win over Battle Lake Friday, Feb. 10, in Wheaton.

“This was a good ballgame between a couple of good teams,” Border West Head Coach Jordon Roos said. “Our rebounding effort was probably the difference in this game. It was a gutsy effort and we found a way to win even though the shots didn’t seem to fall and the ball bounced the other way.”

Border West had a 44-37 advantage on the boards.

Dylan Bainbridge scored 21 points and Clint Determan had 17 to lead the Bucs. Determan completed a double-double by securing 14 rebounds.

Caden Spilde grabbed eight rebounds while Bainbridge had a team high four assists with three steals.

Andrew Walker added eight points and six rebounds and Grant Dawson had a team-high four steals.
