The West Central Area/Ashby Knights football team used a big second quarter to win 40-26 over Hawley Friday, Sept. 23, in Barrett. Each team scored within the first 30 seconds of the game in the wild start.
Hawley’s Bradley Olson took the opening kick-off 78 yards for a touchdown while senior do-it-all player Anthony Sykora scampered 67 yards to the end zone on WCA/A’s first play from scrimmage.
The touchdown was the first of 28 unanswered points going into halftime as the Knights tallied 22 on three scores in the second quarter.
Sykora added another touchdown run of eight yards to give his team a 12-8 lead to start the second quarter. Junior quarterback Brady Lindquist scored on two rushing touchdowns from inside the two-yard line.
Out of halftime, Hawley regrouped and made it a one-possession game twice over the final two quarters.
