Knights earn first wins of 2024

The Knights started their season with nine straight losses, but picked up their first two wins last week. WCA started the week with a 9-0 loss on the road against Montevideo April 23, but they were able to bounce back with a doubleheader sweep in Benson April 25 when the Knights pulled off 4-2 and 5-4 wins for their first two wins of the year.

Montevideo 9

WCA 0

The Knights dropped their ninth game to start the season on the road against the Thunderhawks. A big five-run fifth inning from Montevideo broke the back of WCA on their way to a 9-0 victory for the Thunderhawks.

Montevideo jumped in front with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Two innings later, the Thunderhawks quadrupled their lead with three runs to make it 4-0 after three.

The Thunderhawks really put the game out of reach when they scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the final score 9-0.

The Knights finished the game with just two hits as a team. Gavin Backman finished the game 1 for 3 with a double and Dane Anderson was also 1 for 3.

Anderson took the mound to start for the Knights and he pitched four innings, allowing four runs off eight hits and struck out one. Trent Lindquist pitched the final two innings and allowed two earned runs off four hits and struck out three.

The Knights earned their first win of the season on the road against the Braves with a two-run victory.

WCA won the race to the scoreboard when Austin Bennett scored on an error to give the Knights a 1-0 lead after the first inning.

The lead tripled when they scored two runs in the top of the third. Isaac Fuoss hit a single to score Owen Sanstead and in the next at bat, Trent Lindquist hit a single to score Dajon Olson to make it 3-0.

The lead grew to 4-0 when a single from Jack Courrier scored Tucker McGee to make it 4-0.

Benson finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh, but the Knights managed to hang on for a two-run victory.

The Knights finished the game with 11 hits as a team. Olson led the way, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run. Bennett went 2 for 4 with a run and a steal. Anderson finished 2 for 4 with a steal. Sanstead went 1 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Fuoss went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Trent finished 1 for 4 with an RBI and Courrier was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Bennett pitched all seven innings for the Knights and allowed one earned run off four hits and struck out eight.

The Knights made it two wins in a row with a one-run win over the Braves to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Braves started better in the second game and after a run in the first and third innings to jump ahead 2-0. 

The Knights finally got on the board in the bottom of the third when Bennett singled to score Courrier and make it 2-1.
