Knights improve to 13-3 with three wins

After 16 duals, sophomore Anthony Sykora and senior Jordan Lohse remain undefeated and the West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville Knights wrestling team went 3-0 on the mat this week. The Knights beat Ottertail Central 63-13 Thursday, Feb. 11, in Battle Lake, after going 2-0 at a home triangular against Crookston and Benson Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Barrett.

Sykora, 16-0, is ranked sixth in Class A at 145 pounds and Lohse, 15-0, is ranked No. 2 in Class A at 160 pounds.

Along with Sykora, who earned three pinfall victories this week, Carter Lohse, Kade Olson and Colton Lindquist also went 3-0 on the mat.

Noteworthy, Reubens Swanson earned two pinfall victories in his season debut at 145 pounds last week, and No. 4 Nate Kisgen dropped his first match of the season to No. 2-ranked 195-pounder Ethan Boll of Crookston.

The Knights, now 13-3 on the year, traveled to Wheaton for a triangular against Border West and Canby Tuesday and next wrestle in a home triangular against Minnewaska and Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta Thursday, Feb. 18, in Barrett. Next week, WCA/A/B-E wrestles Fergus Falls and Osakis in a home triangular Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Barrett.

WCA/A/B-E – 63

Ottertail Central – 13

The Knights earned bonus points in all 11 matches they won, including nine pins, en route to a 63-13 dominating victory over Ottertail Central Thursday, Feb. 11, in Battle Lake.

WCA/A/B-E got pins from Carter Lohse at 106, Mason Richter at 113, Adam Lohse at 120, Solomon Wales at 126, Anthony Sykora at 152, Nathaniel Kisgen at 182, Beau Robinson at 195, Colton Lindquist at 220, and Justin Blascyk at 285.

Jordan Lohse won by tech fall at 160 and Kade Olson took a major decision at 170.

Crookston – 29

WCA/A/B-E battled back from a 25-6 deficit to beat Crookston 45-29 in a dual Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Barrett.

Carter Lohse started out the dual with a forfeit victory at 106 pounds then Crookston rattled off 25 straight team points over the next five matches to take a commanding lead.

The Knights’ middle weights did what they’ve done all season, win, and WCA/A/B-E regained the lead. Reubens Swanson at 145, Anthony Sykora at 152, Jordan Lohse at 170 and Beau Robinson at 182 all earned pinfall victories to help the Knights battle back into the dual.

The Knights sealed the win with two pinfall victories at the upper weights by Colton Lindquist at 220 and Justin Blascyk at heavyweight.

Benson – 14

Five forfeits and five pins gave WCA/A/B-E an easy 63-14 win over Benson Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Barrett.

The Knights jumped out to a 51-0 lead after four forfeits and pins from Carter Lohse at 106, Ashton Danner at 138, Reubens Swanson at 145 and Anthony Sykora at 152.

No. 6 Adam Zosel and top-ranked Thomas Dineen got Benson on the point with 11 points at 170 and 195 pounds, respectively. Those Benson points were sandwiched between another pinfall victory for the Knights at 182 pounds as Nathaniel Kisgen pinned his opponent in 12 seconds, his fastest fall of the season.
