After losing 11 to graduation, the West Central Area/Ashby Knights football team will look to underclassmen to fill some roles entering the 2021 season.

The Knights played all seven games in 2020, finishing the year 5-2 overall and winning the Midwest Blue Sub District. The expect to be competitive again this season, WCA/A coach Nate Wood said, who enters his seventh season as a head coach and fifth year with the Knights program.

“Just like any year, learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses and working towards being the best version of ourselves we can be. Attitude and effort at practice has been great so far,” Wood said.

The Knights return a group of nine seniors, including captains in four-year starter Colton Lindquist, linebacker Mattson Hoff and quarterback Evan Paulson.

The WCA/A Knights and the Barnesville Trojans open up the 2021 season against each other Sept. 3, in Barrett. Barnesville was a top team in the 2020 season and routed WCA/A 41-0 in 2020.
