After qualifying for the Class A state tournament, the West Central Area boys basketball team earned the second seed in the tournament and drew Heritage Christian Academy in the first round at Target Center in Minneapolis March 21. The Knights used a big first half to propel WCA to a 64-53 first round win over HCA.

The Knights were in control for the entire first half of play in the opening state period. Camden Anderson hit a three just a few minutes in the game to give the Knights a 7-3 advantage, but HCA scored the next four points to tie the game at 7-7.

With the game locked at 9-9, the Knights scored seven straight points to jump out to a 16-9 advantage with under 10 minutes left in the half.

The lead stayed with the Knights and thanks to another run of 10 straight points and a fastbreak layup from Anderson made it 29-16 in favor of the Knights with just over four minutes on the clock.

Both teams essentially traded buckets over the final few minutes of the second half and the Knights held a comfortable 44-28 lead at the midpoint.
