Lindquist homers twice to open May ball for WCA

Brady Lindquist parked two home runs in prep baseball action last week for the West Central Area Knights baseball team. He hit a solo shot against BOLD Monday and a three-run homer in a 9-8 win over Benson Friday, May 5.

The Knights dropped a West Central Conference doubleheader to BOLD Monday, May 1, in Barrett, then split with Benson in a conference doubleheader Friday, May 5, in Barrett.

WCA, now 4-8, played Minnewaska in a conference doubleheader Tuesday, May 9 and travel to Fergus Falls for a non-conference game Friday, May 12.

BOLD 9

West Central 4

BOLD pulled away late en route to a 9-4 win in game one of a West Central Conference doubleheader Monday, May 1, in Barrett.

Both teams scored right away in the first inning. WCA’s run was scored on a two-out solo home run over the center field fence by Brady Lindquist.

BOLD went ahead 5-1 with a run in the third and three runs in the fourth. The Knights chipped away at the lead, closing the gap to 5-3 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth frame. Bryce Kjesbo stole home and Adam Lohse scored on a sacrifice fly by Dane Anderson in the fourth.

WCA tightened the deficit to 5-4 after Kjesbo got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth, but the Knights could get no closer.

Lindquist and Ty Fuoss both went 2-for-4 at the plate while Cole Bruss and Brayden Stark went 2-for-3. Bryce Kjesbo, Dane Anderson and Lindquist all recorded RBIs in the game.

Bruss took the loss on the mound as he went four innings and gave up five runs (two earned) on six hits. He walked six and struck out six before Dane Anderson came in for relief, giving up four runs (one earned) on seven hits in three innings.

For BOLD, Owen Flann went 4-for-4 with a double and Jack Kaiser had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored in the win.

Daylen Weber took the win on the mound for the Warriors. He went five innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out four.

BOLD 13

West Central 0

BOLD marked in all four innings en route to a 13-0 five inning win in game two over WCA Monday, in Barrett.

The Knights had just three hits in the game – by Ben Bye in the second, Brady Lindquist in the fourth and Brayden Stark in the fifth.

For BOLD, Tate Sheehan was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Sam Sigurdson struck out three in a five-inning, complete-game shutout.

Andrew Bennett was tagged with the loss. He gave up three earned runs on three hits, walked four and struck out two in two innings of work.

Benson 9

West Central Area 8

Benson added three runs to come-from-behind and beat West Central Area 9-8 in a West Central Conference doubleheader Friday, May 5, in Barrett.

The Braves got on the board right away in the first on a sacrifice fly by Alex Claussen and went ahead 3-0 on an RBI single by Max Nygaard and a bases loaded walk by Claussen in the third.

The Knights finally got on the board in the bottom of the third, trimming the deficit to 3-2 with a Ty Fuoss RBI single and a bases loaded walk from Bryce Kjesbo.

WCA tied the game at 3-3 when Adam Lohse scored on a ground out by Cash Nelson in the fourth. The Knights then went ahead with three runs in the fifth. Two runs scored on a big error before Brayden Stark was plated on a passed ball.

Benson wasn’t going down without a fight, tying the game at 6-6 with three runs in the sixth inning. Grant Gunlogson tripled to score Jack Storlien and Nygaard and scored on a single by Reece Larson.

In the bottom of the inning, the Knights regained the lead on a two-run single by Cole Bruss.

In the top of the seventh, AJ Klassen drove in a run on a double, then Mason Moe connected on a 1-0 pop fly to right field, scoring the game-tying run in Klassen and the go-ahead run in Garrent Lenz.

WCA went down in order to fall 9-8 in game one.

Ben Bye was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while Cole Bruss drove in two. Lohse had a triple in the loss.

Cash Nelson was tagged with the loss for WCA on the bump. He went 5.2 innings, gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits, walked six and struck out seven.

Benson was led by Reece Larson, who went 4-for-4 in the game. Gunlogson had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Braves.

Claussen earned the win for Benson after striking out eight in 4.1 innings of work.

West Central Area 9

In a game that was called early due to no lighting on the field, WCA claimed a 9-8 win over Benson in game two Friday, May 5, in Barrett. WCA jumped ahead to a 3-0 start early and withstood a late comeback from Benson to pull out the victory.

Brady Lindquist had a three-run homer in the first to get WCA on the board

After Benson got one back on a bases loaded walk, WCA responded with four runs over the next two innings to go ahead 7-1.

Jack Courrier drove in two on a single in the fourth, Benson began to chip away at the lead, but fell short 9-8.

Lindquist was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Carter Lohse, Jacob Strunk and Brayden Stark all scored twice for the Knights.

Ben Bye earned the win on the mound. He went four innings, gave up eight earned runs on seven hits, walked nine and struck out five.
