A total of four West Central Area golfers competed in the boys and girls Class A state tournament at Pebble Creek in Becker June 11-12, three of them being Dewey siblings. Senior Mitchell Dewey led the Knights, medaling in a tie for eighth. Sophomore Marshall Dewey placed tied for 10th. For the girls, seventh-grader Miley Dewey finished 21st and junior Macy Grosz crashed the family affair for WCA and finished in a tie for 36th.

For the boys, both Deweys were able to finish in the top-10. On the first day, Mitchell Dewey fired a 75 to put himself in a tie for seventh. Marshall Dewey was not far behind with a 77 in a tie for 11th. Mitchell Dewey then shot 77 on the second day for a two-day total of 152 to tie for eighth. Marshall Dewey shot 76 on the second day to finish just a shot behind his brother in a tie for 10th overall.

Miley Dewey shot an 89 in the first round to put her in a tie for 18th in the girls tournament. Macy Grosz shot 95 on day one to put her in 35th. On the second day, Miley Dewey was 13-over through 16 holes before play ended due to weather. For both days, Miley Dewey was 30-over and finished 21st. Grosz finished 21-over through 16 holes on day two to finish 44-over in total to finish tied for 36th.

“I’m not sure people realize what an accomplishment this is to place eighth and 10th individually in the entire state of Class A golfers and for Mitch to medal. Golf is a grueling mental sport. They have to deal with water hazards, trees, sand traps, long grass, gusty winds and nerve-racking putts for five hours straight both days in a row. Super proud of these guys!” head boys coach Kraig Hunter said.
