Senior Legion Post 357 Ashby Arrows finish last week with 2-1-1 record

The Ashby senior legion team played in a pair of doubleheaders last week. The team was able to sweep the Wheaton Bandits at home June 24 with wins of 11-4 and 9-1. It was a little tougher for the Arrows when they hosted Parkers Prairie June 27. The two teams tied 4-4 in the opening game and then Ashby fell in the finale 8-3 to Parkers Prairie.

The Arrows started the game fast against the Bandits, scoring all 11 of their runs in the first three innings of play and coasted their way to a seven-run victory.

Ashby jumped on the board in the bottom of the first with two runs. Logan Johnson scored on a single from Jake Norby and two batters later, Brodie Ecker scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

They stretched the lead in the bottom of the second. A triple from Ecker scored Kellen Dahlen and Riley Perleberg. In the next at bat, a double from Brady Perleberg scored Ecker to make it 5-0.

Wheaton was able to make it interesting in the top of the third with four  runs to make it 5-4.

The Arrows really put the game away in the bottom of the third with six big runs to make it 11-4. Ashby was able to hold Wheaton off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game and the Arrows cruised to a 11-4 win.

Ashby finished the game with four total hits. Ecker finished 1 for 1 with a triple, two RBI and two runs. Brady Perleberg went 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI. Johnson finished 1 for 2 with a run and Norby was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Brady Perleberg pitched three innings for the Arrows and allowed three runs off three hits and struck out five.

Wheaton 1

The Arrows had another dominant showing in the doubleheader finale against Wheaton. Ashby pulled off the nearly stress free 9-1 win over the Bandits to complete the sweep. Detailed scoring and individual statistics were not available for this game.

Parkers Prairie 4

Ashby and Parkers Prairie played eight innings, but still could not find a winner with the teams ending the game with a 4-4 tie.

The Arrows won the race to the scoreboard when a single from Norby scored Johnson to make it 1-0 after one inning.

Parkers Prairie came back with two runs in the top of the fourth to take their first lead of the game at 2-1.

Ashby got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth when a double from Brady Perleberg scored Riley Perleberg to tie the game at 2-2 through five innings.

The Arrows were able to go back in front with two runs in the bottom of the sixth off two sacrifice bunts. The first was a bunt from Dahlen to score Jack Courrier and in the next at bat, a sac bunt from Riley Perleberg scored Lucus Fuller to make it 4-2. 

Parkers Prairie came through in the clutch with two runs in the final inning to tie the game at 4-4 and sent the game into an eighth inning. In the eighth inning, only three batters went to the plate for both teams, and the game was called a tie.

After a stalemate in the first game, Parkers Prairie took down Ashby in the doubleheader finale 8-3.

Ashby was the first team to score in the game with three runs in the top of the second. A single from Robert Nelson scored Norby, Fred Schlotfeld scored on a single from Riley Perleberg and Nelson scored on a fielder’s choice to make it 3-0. 

Parkers Prairie responded very quickly with six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 advantage over the Arrows.

The third, fourth and fifth innings went by with neither team adding any runs, but Parkers Prairie added a couple runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 8-3.

The Arrows had six hits as a team. Norby finished 2 for 3 with a run. Riley Perleberg went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Nelson was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Ecker finished 1 for 3.

Fuller pitched four innings and allowed no earned runs off three hits and struck out one. Courrier pitched two innings and allowed five earned runs off four hits.

The team played a doubleheader on the road against Osakis July 1. The next game on the schedule is another road doubleheader against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Monday, July 8.
