The Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta / West Central Area girls tennis team moved to 3-0 on the year after beating MACCRAY 6-1 Tuesday, Sept. 1, in Clara City.

“It was windy on Tuesday and it took a few of them some time to adjust. The girls played well again and the doubles teams are starting mesh well.  Everyone is still healthy. One girl is still in quarantine, She currently has no symptoms,” MACA/WCA coach Britney House said.

The Tigers swept singles with Abbigail Athey, Katelyn Wehking, Kassidy Girard, and Hope Sperr all winning. The duo of Greta Hentges and Lakia Manska won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, and Brynna Olson and Breanna Schmidgall won in straight sets at No. 2 doubles.

After a lot of tough matches, the Tiger girls were feeling the physical effects.

“The girls were feeling the hard work from the last couple of weeks, and really wanted to do some restorative yoga today. They are so good at self reflection, and know what they need,” House said. “When we are at practice, they know what they need to work on, and ask me to adjust a drill to work on what they need. Jaclyn and I also ask them after their match to give us a high-low-high, two good things they did and one thing to improve on. They almost always say exactly what I would have told them. Being able to self reflect makes them so coachable. They are one of the most mature groups of girls I have been able to coach.”

The Tigers played Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday, Sept. 3. Due to early Labor Day deadlines, those results will be published in the Sept. 16 print edition. The Tigers next play at Montevideo Thursday, Sept. 10 before playing Sauk Centre Tuesday, Sept. 15, in Morris.
