Six West Central Area/ Ashby/Brandon-Evansville wrestling coaches and alumni competed at the Twin City Old Timers Wrestling Tournament Saturday, April 8, at the St. Paul Como High School in St. Paul.
The event, which is in its fourth year, is a fundraiser for St. Paul wrestling programs with 100 percent of the proceeds going to fund youth wrestling.
At Saturday’s tournament, there were a total of 11 teams, including the area-filled squad, the SilverBacks. Roughly 80 wrestlers competed in the individual tournament as well.
The SilverBacks included current WCA/A/B-E wrestling coaches Gage Wevley and Dan Wales and four former WCA/A/B-E wrestlers. Jake Nohre was a 2016 graduate of Evansville and wrestling for the Knights, Royal Crow was a 2015 graduate of WCA, and Alex Butcher and Wyatt Olson both graduated in 2019 from West Central Area.
The SilverBacks went 3-1 as a team with their lone loss coming against a team of former Buena Vista wrestlers, who went on to win the entire tournament. The SilverBacks took fifth place overall.
Individually, Royal Crow won his five-person individual bracket at 185 pounds.
