The West Central Area softball team has been battling the weather all season long and that continued last week. They were able to sneak one game into their schedule when they hosted BOLD in Barrett on May 3. The Knights could not keep up with the 7-2 Warriors and fell 10-2 in seven innings.

With the cold and wet weather, it took awhile for either team to get going on the offensive side. After four scoreless innings, BOLD opened up the scoring with one run in the top of the fifth. The Warriors continued to stretch their lead with two runs in the top of the sixth and seven more in the top of the seventh to make it 10-0.

The Knights were able to avoid a shutout by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh. A double from Sophie Sanstead scored Addison Staples and Sanstead was able to score in the next at bat on a passed ball to make the final score 10-2.

The Knights had half as many hits as BOLD with just four total. Madi Fagre led the team, going 2 for 3 with a double. Sanstead finished 1 for 3 with a double, a run and the team’s only RBI. Staple chipped in going 1 for 2 with a run and a walk.

Lily Mahoney pitched five and a third innings for the Knights and allowed one earned run off four hits and struck out seven.

The team was back on the road when they took on the Benson Braves May 7. The next game on their schedule is a doubleheader against Minnewaska Area on the road on Thursday, May 9.
