WCA track and field finish the season at West Central Conference Championships

With the track and field regular season winding down, the WCA team competed in the West Central Conference Championships in Morris May 14. The girls finished the meet in sixth as a team and the boys were eighth for the Knights.

The girls finished the meet in sixth place as a team with 55 points. Minnewaska Area won the meet with 168 points.

Terina Blascyk pulled off the only event win for the Knights with a jump of 4’ 11’’ in the high jump. In the 100, Keira Gehrke finished second for WCA with a time of 13.58 and Sydney Ulrich was not far behind in fourth with a 13.73. Maci Robinson was second in the shot put with a throw of 34’ 11’’ and Callie Glawe finished seventh with 29’ 5’’. In the long jump, Sydney Ulrich finished fourth with 14’ 6.75’’ and Jayden Styba was seventh with 13’ 4.75’’. Sydney Ulrich was also sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 30’ 8.5’’. Taylor Bennett finished seventh in the 3,200 with a time of 13:37.07. In the relays, WCA finished fourth in the 4×100 with 54.25, fifth in the 4×200 with 1:56.43 and eighth in the 4×400 with 5:07.81. 

The boys finished eighth out of eight teams with 14.33 points. Montevideo won the conference as a team with 171 points. The boys only finished the event with five top-eight finishes as a team.

Carter Kjesbo finished the 1,600 in second with a time of 4:47.21. In the discus, Ben Nyreen finished seventh with a throw of 109’ 6’’. Isaac Allen came in eighth in the high jump with a height of 5’ 3’’. In the relays, WCA finished sixth in the 4×100 with a time of 50.14 and eighth in the 4×200 with 1:48.97.

With the conference season now concluded, the WCA track and field team will turn their attention to postseason play. The team will be ready to go for their subsection meet at Pelican Rapids High School on Thursday, May 23.
