The West Central Area track and field teams finally opened up the 2022 season Thursday, April 21, at Benson. The Knight girls finished fourth overall in the seven-team meet with five top three finishes while the boys took fifth with four top three finishers.
Lexi Bright was the lone champion for the WCA girls. She won the 1600-meter run in 5:32.70 and also finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:33. Bright also finished third in the long jump with a distance of 14-02.75.
Taylor Bennett finished second in the 3200-meter run in 14:02.55.
The 4×800-meter relay of Terina Blascyk, Macy Grosz, Bennett and Alexa Blume finished runner-up in the event with a time of 11:10.44.
The boys were highlighted by a first-place finish by Tyler Stone in the discus throw. Stone had a best throw of 131-05 and also finished second in the shot put with a distance of 40-07.5.
The 4×100-meter relay finished third overall. The foursome included Stone, Roman Mihailovschi, Parker Stach, and Anthony Sykora.
Shad Swanson finished in second place in the 3200-meter run. The senior finished the two-mile race in 12:43.17.
The Knights next compete at Sisseton Friday, April 29 then at Long Prairie-Gray Eagle Thursday, May 5.
