WCA volleyball team beats Hillcrest, 3-1

The West Central Area volleyball team got back on the winning track last week with a 3-1 win over Hillcrest on Tuesday. Game scores were 25-12, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-18.

WCA Leaders:

Kills- Elizabeth Rustan 10, Brooke Anderson and Halle Foslien 6, Kennedy Ulrich, Morgan Stark, and Sophie Sanstead 4

Assists- Sophie Sanstead 18

Digs- Brooke Anderson 16, Sophie Sanstead 15

Service Aces- Kennedy Ulrich 5

Blocks- Halle Foslien and Elizabeth Rustan 2

The West Central Area Knights have had a couple of tough games of late, losing the last three games. They’ve struggled with some injuries and quarantined athletes, losing two starters this week as setter Macy Grosz and outside hitter Mya Foslien are out until next week.

Eighth grader Sophie Sanstead, jumped in these past couple of games to fill the role as setter, and she’s done a great job!

As the Knights faced Hillcrest, they were in need of a good performance. Elizabeth Rustan came through, going 20 for 22 with 10 kills and two ace blocks.

Morgan Stark was back to her old self, with some nice swings on the outside. We need those two to be leaders for us, and they have had a few rough games lately which shook their confidence a bit. If we can put the ball in their hands, we as a team know they will execute an aggressive play.

Halle Foslien also had a good night at the net, going 15 for 15 with six kills. Brooke Anderson moved to outside, going 18 for 19 with six kills also.

As a team we had a total of twelve ace serves. Steady and aggressive serving was key for us tonight. Serving was definitely an issue for Hillcrest as they missed several serves, giving the Knights some easy points each game.

The Knights will face the Ortonville Trojans next Tuesday.
